This popped up in my FB feed from several years ago, but I thought Oppo would appreciate it. I was assisting a student in using the miter saw, when a female student came up to me and whispered, “Mr. Shop Teacher, the back of your pants is torn.”

I thanked her and retreated to my store room, and the seam on the side of the pocket had split wide open. I reached for the only duck tape I had, this fetching checkerboard pattern, and put a piece on the inside and the outside of the seam, and then went back to teaching. I had at least 3-4 more hours of teaching to do after that.

That student instantly became my favorite.

Is there a word (probably in German) for when you’re surprised but at the same time not really surprised  that “that’s a thing ?”

A rim shot? in this context? At this time of year? Localised entirely in your kitchen?

American Science & Surplus was one of my favorite catalogs growing up. I would look forward to it turning up in the mail. So many weird and odd random items, and very amusing descriptions!

Something something finish line, something something skid marks...

I have several pairs of jeans which tore in the same spot. Fortunately it’s typically pretty noticable as it happens since it’s usually in my garage and I realize there is no longer denim between myself and the floor I’m sitting on.

It certainly brought those pants to the finish line.

Mine usually tear in the crotch.
